Top Ghanaian Politician says Election Commission's Chair is Key in Swinging a Tight Election

A leading Member of Ghana's largest opposition party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Hon. Alban Kingsford Sumani Bagbin, has stated that the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC) can scheme an election process in favour of or against a particular political party.

Hon. Bagbin who is also Second Deputy Speaker of Ghana's Parliament, told Timescape Magazine in an exclusive interview that there is   evidence that support  allegations of both the current and former Election Commission’s chairpersons working in favour of the then governing party and current party in power respectively.

"The Electoral Commission per say, if we had things right, it will be almost impossible for them to change the fortunes of the political parties. Unfortunately, we don't", he said.

The Ghanaian political guru, however, noted that the country's electorate are wising up in that when they find out the case where the Election Commission is doing things against the general public interest just to favour the party in power, they would protest by voting against the  party in question.

"They can react if they think that the Electoral Commission is just doing everything to hand ‘over’ power to the existing regime", he added.
