Two Chadian Ministers have resigned after their sex tapes were leaked on social media.
The Secretary General of the government, Haliki Choua Mahamat, and the country’s Defense Minister, General Daoud Yaya Brahim, announced their resignations on October 17 and the morning of the 18th respectively.
“I wanted to personally inform you of an important decision that I have just made. Indeed, after a long reflection, I decided to present my resignation from the government, and I am happy to announce that the Prime Minister has accepted it,” Haliki Choua Mahamat announced on his Facebook account.
Haliki Choua Mahamat had been at the center of a controversy for several days, a sex tape having been published on social networks featuring him with a woman presented as his wife.
The secretary general of the government was outraged at “the exposure of his private life” and announced his intention to file a complaint with the courts.
The president of the Transitional Council, Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno, and the Prime Minister, Saleh Kebzabo, thought it was preferable to ask Haliki Choua Mahamat to resign and devote himself to his defense. The Chadian government, which must organize a new presidential election within a year, has in fact entered the final phase of the transition.
Similar reasons were advanced in the case of the Minister of Defense. Daoud Yaya Brahim announced, a few hours after his colleague, his resignation from the Kebzabo government. The general, who was a longtime associate of late President Idris Deby Itno before his son, Mahamat took over, has also been caught up in a leaked sex tape affair. He was allegedly filmed in the company of a young woman. He then allegedly tried to cover up the scandal by having several arrests made– two young girls have been missing since October 16 – apparently taken by the security services.
